Physical examinations are vital for maintaining your companion’s health. The physical exam includes an assessment of your pet’s eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, nose, throat, heart, lungs, organs, reproductive system, muscle tone, weight, lymph nodes, skin and coat. Along with evaluating your pet’s physical health through the exam, Dr. Lavine will also assess their nutritional needs, lifestyle and environment. For adult pets, we recommend twice yearly visits to help diagnosis problems early and allow you more opportunities to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.
Dr. Lavine supports your efforts at becoming an active participant in your pet’s care. In contrast to 15-30 minute in hospital appointments, the time allotted for a house call visit is typically 60 minutes. This additional time is very important to Dr. Lavine. Longer appointments allow a more thorough evaluation of your pet and provide you a greater opportunity to ask questions and discuss your pet’s health, while they relax comfortably in familiar surroundings.
A complete annual exam includes a thorough physical, vaccine assessment, parasite screen and blood-work. Blood-work and other diagnostics identify the presence of underlying disease and help define a baseline should your pet become ill in the future.
